Glossary
Plain-English meaning of the words used in Simplifyd MDM.
Admin — the role that can do everything, including wiping devices and managing people.
Agent — the small piece of software on a managed device that talks to the console.
Alert — a warning that a device is breaking a rule or has stopped reporting in.
Audit log — the permanent record of who did what and when. Nobody can edit or delete it.
Auditor — a read-only role. Can see devices, policies, and the audit log; can change nothing.
BYOD — "bring your own device". A device the person owns and uses for work. You may only remove work data from these, never everything.
Check-in — the moment a device contacts the console to report its state and collect new instructions. Normally every few minutes.
Command — a one-off instruction to a device: lock, restart, sync, lost mode, or wipe.
Compliant — the device is following every rule in its policy.
Corporate — a device the organisation owns.
DFCI — firmware management for Windows laptops you own. Lets you control hardware settings such as the camera, radios, and what the machine may boot from, and stops anyone changing them in the BIOS. See Lock down firmware settings.
Enrolment — the one-time setup that puts a device under management.
Enrolment token — the single-use code or QR code that lets a device join your fleet. Shown once.
Finding — one specific thing wrong on a device, with a severity of low, medium, or high.
Grace period — a short window where a rule is not met but the device is not yet treated as a failure, giving the user time to fix it.
Group — a label on devices used to assign policies and apps together.
Helpdesk — the role that can send device commands and view information, but cannot change configuration.
Lost mode — locks a device and shows a message on its screen so a finder knows who to contact. Reversible.
Managed Google Play — Google's business version of the Play store, used to deliver Android apps to managed devices.
MFA — multi-factor authentication. A six-digit code from your phone, on top of your password.
Non-compliant — the device is breaking at least one rule now.
Policy — the set of rules a device must follow. Assigned to groups, versioned every time it changes.
QR provisioning — enrolling an Android device by scanning a code during first-time setup.
Selective wipe — removes only work apps and work data, leaving personal content alone.
Serial number — the device's unique identifier. The fastest way to find a device in the console.
Sync — asks a device to check in right now and refresh its details. Changes nothing on the device.
Wipe — a full factory reset. Erases everything and removes the device from your fleet. Cannot be undone.
