Enrol a personal phone
Give someone's own phone a work profile, without touching their personal side.
Time needed: about 5 minutes. You need: managed Google Play connected, and the person's Android phone.
Nothing on the phone is erased. Android creates a separate work profile with its own apps, marked with a briefcase. You manage only the work profile: you can't see their personal apps, messages, photos or where they go, and removing the work profile leaves all of that alone.
Step 1: make the token
- In the console, go to Devices and select Enroll new device.
- Choose Android · Personal · work profile.
- Under Assign devices to group, pick a group for personal phones, such as
Staff BYOD, and check its Policy. - Set Max uses to
1and select Generate token.
Step 2: send it to the person
Either show them the QR code to scan with their phone's camera, or select Copy link and send them the link. Tell them what it is for:
This sets up a work profile for your work apps and email. Your personal apps and data stay private and aren't affected. If you leave, we remove only the work profile.
Step 3: on the phone
The person opens the link or scans the code and follows Android's steps. The work apps appear with a briefcase badge.
Step 4: confirm
The phone appears in Devices as Personal. Some settings don't apply to work profiles; the policy editor marks them, and the review warns you before you publish.
Removing it later
From the phone's page, More → Remove work profile… deletes the work profile and its data and takes the phone out of management. Their personal side stays. Personal phones can't be fully wiped, locked in lost mode, located, or viewed remotely.
